Romney could be forgiven for his errant judgement in being persuaded to vote for Carter's "decency and honesty", especially in light of Watergate. However, I personally have to question the judgement of someone who voted for Mondale 4 years later, then supported Paul Tsongas 4 years after that.
That takes us to 1988.
6 years later, in 1994, Romney ran for the Senate seat in Massachucetts. That's right, Massachucetts, the only state liberal enough to vote for McGovern. He lost that race and then suddenly became a Conservative, right?
Not exactly.
In 2002, he again sought office in Massachucetts-this time for Governor- and won.... as a pro-abortion, tax raising "moderate". It was there that he implemented tax paid, universal health care, with a Government mandate.
After leaving office, he became a champion of vulture capitalism, promoting govt bailouts of struggling companies so he could raid their pensions and then cut their workers loose. He even defended what he did at Bain by bragging that it is exactly what Obama did!
Today?
Why, he is MR. Conservative himself! Why, he makes Rush Limbaugh look like Nancy Pelosi. Why, he was pro-Reagan when being pro-Reagan wasn't cool.
Yea...
That's why Michael and Nancy Reagan endorsed Newt Gingrich and said that Newt received "the torch from Ronnie".
Romney, on the other hand, was endorsed by Bob Dole (the sabatour of the 1994 Republican revolution and the only man capable of losing to Clinton in 1996) and John McCain (the sabatour of the GWB presidency and the reason that Stephen Breyer and Ruth Bader Ginsberg were good enough for the court but Miguel Estrada wasn't).
Now, Dole is endorsing Romney and assailing Gingrich for helping Clinton. Irony, anyone?
McCain is endorsing Romney and assailing Gingrich for his position on immigration. See above question.
Last night, after reading that the millions in attack ads by Romney and his ilk, had put the Massachucetts liberal back in front in Florida, I was about to write an article called "The fix is in". Then I looked at Real Clear Politics only to see that Erik Erickson beat me to it.
The sheer gall of their line of attack is that Newt is unelectable because his negatives are too high, that he was a failure as a Speaker and that he will hurt Republican candidates down the ticket.
Let's review the facts, shall we?
- The man who gave the GOP House control for the first time in 40 years? Dole? McCain? Romney? Yea, right.....
- The only speaker in 60 years to balance the budget even once, did it 4 times in a row. Who was it? Hastert? Boehnner? You know better.....
- The negatives??? Look at what is happening now! 17 years of relentless assault by Democrats. This includes the Democrats in the Democratic party and the Democrats in the Republican party.....Dole, McCain and Romney to name a few.
Sadly, it looks like the fix may, indeed, be in and Republicans and Conservatives are about to be Reminded of our duty to convince America that this latest and greatest Wolf really is the best man to guard the sheep.
If Romnobama is the nominee, you will hear endless speeches about how he will repeal Obamacare, lower taxes, balance the budget, secure the border.....
Here we go again.... We will never get to grandma's house at this rate
Pass the mylanta....we are so screwed.
